Sportznut Sports update from the desk of Ron

sportznutWow, what a great 2016 season we have had in sport.  First of all, the AFL at the half way mark Geelong , Sydney Swans, Hawthorn, Greater Western Sydney, North Melbourne, Adelaide and West Coast all within two wins of top spot on the ladder.  Bookmakers favorite, Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield, should be 6 or 7 votes in front for the 2016 Brownlow Medal having his best ever season since coming to Geelong.  Paddy has given the Cats plenty of drive out of the centre plus freeing up Joel Selwood to do what he does best and that’s get plenty of the ball.  Joel will be right up there in the Brownlow count as well this year.  Hawthorn are winning games but not by large margins,  it would appear they are missing that great champion Luke Hodge and he could be the missing link when he gets back from injury.  Luke is such a competitive “beast” that he could lift them over the line for the Hawks four peatGWS Giants also have been playing sensational football with Steve Johnson, Dylan Sheil and Heath Shaw have had plenty of the ball so far this season, but the Giants find it hard to win away from their home ground, remember the Grand Final is played at the MCGSydney Swans are the real deal as well with Buddy Franklin leading the Coleman Medal count and Dan Hannebery winning plenty of best on the ground and making him a good contender to poll well in the Brownlow count.  Western Bulldogs are right up with a top four finish, they have so far this season been the side to watch with fast play on football and relentless pressure that takes its toll with injuries to key players Robert Murphy, Jason Johannisen and Luke Dahlhaus.  Don’t underestimate the Doggies.  Marcus Bontempelli has had a break out season so far and will be polling well in the Brownlow Medal as well.   Adelaide, North Melbourne and West Coast all have a big chance of playing finals football depending where they end up on the ladder.  If all goes well for the second half of the season, this will decide how far they go into September.  Stayed tuned and remember to order all your AFL Premiers memorabilia and Brownlow Medal memorabilia in advance to avoid disappointment as they are all limited editions.
The NRL season is also a ripper with the Broncos, Cronulla Sharks, Melbourne Storm and North Queensland Cowboys all making up the top four with at least another 4 or 5 clubs knocking on the door.  There is great value to be had if you like to have a punt on your club winning the NRL or AFL Premiership or your favorite player winning the Clive Churchill Medal or Brownlow Medal.  What a great season of sport we are having plus the State of Origin games between Queensland and NSW.  Who will win the series?  Also Wimbledon:  can Novak Jocavic win again or Andy Murray?   How far into Wimbledon will the Australians Tomic and Kyrios get, can they go all the way?  The Tour de France is just around the corner and not far off is our magnificent spring racing carnival with Winx trying to win back to back Cox Plates against some of the best international race horses in the world.  We are eagerly waiting on whether Michelle Payne will retire or try and win with Prince of Penzance again at this year’s Melbourne Cup.
