Sportznut Sports update from the desk of Ron

sportznutWow, what a great 2016 season we have had in sport.  First of all, the AFL at the half way mark Geelong , Sydney Swans, Hawthorn, Greater Western Sydney, North Melbourne, Adelaide and West Coast all within two wins of top spot on the ladder.  Bookmakers favorite, Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield, should be 6 or 7 votes in front for the 2016 Brownlow Medal having his best ever season since coming to Geelong.  Paddy has given the Cats plenty of drive out of the centre plus freeing up Joel Selwood to do what he does best and that’s get plenty of the ball.  Joel will be right up there in the Brownlow count as well this year.  Hawthorn are winning games but not by large margins,  it would appear they are missing that great champion Luke Hodge and he could be the missing link when he gets back from injury.  Luke is such a competitive “beast” that he could lift them over the line for the Hawks four peatGWS Giants also have been playing sensational football with Steve Johnson, Dylan Sheil and Heath Shaw have had plenty of the ball so far this season, but the Giants find it hard to win away from their home ground, remember the Grand Final is played at the MCGSydney Swans are the real deal as well with Buddy Franklin leading the Coleman Medal count and Dan Hannebery winning plenty of best on the ground and making him a good contender to poll well in the Brownlow count.  Western Bulldogs are right up with a top four finish, they have so far this season been the side to watch with fast play on football and relentless pressure that takes its toll with injuries to key players Robert Murphy, Jason Johannisen and Luke Dahlhaus.  Don’t underestimate the Doggies.  Marcus Bontempelli has had a break out season so far and will be polling well in the Brownlow Medal as well.   Adelaide, North Melbourne and West Coast all have a big chance of playing finals football depending where they end up on the ladder.  If all goes well for the second half of the season, this will decide how far they go into September.  Stayed tuned and remember to order all your AFL Premiers memorabilia and Brownlow Medal memorabilia in advance to avoid disappointment as they are all limited editions.
The NRL season is also a ripper with the Broncos, Cronulla Sharks, Melbourne Storm and North Queensland Cowboys all making up the top four with at least another 4 or 5 clubs knocking on the door.  There is great value to be had if you like to have a punt on your club winning the NRL or AFL Premiership or your favorite player winning the Clive Churchill Medal or Brownlow Medal.  What a great season of sport we are having plus the State of Origin games between Queensland and NSW.  Who will win the series?  Also Wimbledon:  can Novak Jocavic win again or Andy Murray?   How far into Wimbledon will the Australians Tomic and Kyrios get, can they go all the way?  The Tour de France is just around the corner and not far off is our magnificent spring racing carnival with Winx trying to win back to back Cox Plates against some of the best international race horses in the world.  We are eagerly waiting on whether Michelle Payne will retire or try and win with Prince of Penzance again at this year’s Melbourne Cup.

Ricky Ponting Retirement Memorabilia

Ricky Ponting exits the game as a player who has captivated audiences for almost two decades. Today, as he announces he will complete his career at the very same ground that he made his debut all the way back in 1995, Ponting is leaving the game the way he has conducted his career, on his terms.

As a captain and as a batsman, Ricky Ponting can lay claim to being the greatest player of his generation. His ruthless attitudes towards opposition bowling attacks saw him amass an incredible 6 double centuries, 41 test centuries and the second most amount of test runs in history, 13,366. Three of those double centuries came in 2003, perhaps his best calendar year when he amassed an incredible 1503 runs at an average of 100.20. He finishes his career with 168 test matches to his name, equal with the great Steve Waugh as Australia’s most capped Test player.

Michael Clarke Domination

If there was any doubt, another double-century confirmed 2012 as the year of Michael Clarke.

It is a batting streak that is without peer. On a record breaking first day of the 2nd Test v South Africa the Australian Captain scored his second double-century in as many innings and became the first batsman to do so four times in a calendar year.

Previously sharing the record (3) with Don Bradman and Ricky Ponting, Clarke, who has another three Tests to play this year, has an average of 127.10, which is the second-highest for a single year (1000-plus runs in a year) behind Garry Sobers’ average of 144.33.

The classy right-hander has now scored 489 runs against South Africa this series, facing 655 balls being dismissed once. It is shaping as the best year ever enjoyed by an Australian batsman and conceivably could yet become the greatest plundering of runs in a calendar year in the history of cricket.

To celebrate this extraordinary 2012 year, SE Products in conjunction with Cricket Australia is proud to release this commemorative bat. Simply titled ‘Domination’ this bat pays tribute to Clarke’s record breaking year. Each bat will be personally signed by Clarke and will delivered in January so as to include the full statistical and pictorial history of one of the greatest years in the 140 year history of the game.

You ‘Domination’ is:
• Personally signed by bat by Australian Captain Michael Clarke
• Framed to archival quality standards
• Includes full statistical & pictorial history of Clarke’s 2012 year
• Endorsed by Cricket Australia
• Complete with COA and a-Tag authentication

Ricky Ponting ‘One Day Years’ and ‘Career Bat’

He is Australia’s most prolific ODI run scorer of all time amassing in excess of 10,000 runs, he holds a leading 72% ODI successful record as captain and as a player, he has won three ODI World Cups, two of them undefeated and as captain.

He is Ricky Ponting

It’s a sign of Ponting’s ability to influence games that he has 32 player-of-the-match awards, even in Australia’s star-studded team. He has twice been Australia’s one-day player of the year en route to four Allan Border Medals. But arguably the greatest sign of respect his enormous numbers and impact came in 2010 when Ponting was voted ODI international player of the decade by a global panel of past and present players and writers. His influence was deemed so noteworthy that his votes were almost double that of second placegetter Jacques Kallis and, instructively, almost three times that of his great statistical rival Tendulkar.

Ponting has captained his country in ODIs more than any other player and his 375 matches is fourth all-time. His 30 centuries are second only to Sachin Tendulkar and remarkably has scored more than 1000 runs in a calendar year six times. By any measure he is a legend of the game and to celebrate the outstanding career of Ricky Ponting, SEP  and Cricket Australia are proud a presentation bat and premium lithograph.

England’s Ashes 2010-2011

England has clinched a test series in Australia for the first time in 24 years, by wrapping up the fifth and final test by an innings and 83 runs to hold onto the Ashes 3-1.

The Sydney Cricket Ground triumph gave England an unprecedented third innings victory in a single series against Australia, which has been Australia’s worst defeat in 15-20 years.

To celebrate England’s domination in the Vodafone Ashes Series, SE Products in conjunction with the ECB bring you ‘England’s Ashes’. This stunning lithograph depicts the domination that they detained over the Australians this summer.
